Needed: 3 bollen Midi/Big Cotton – inner pouf – needle and thread – scissors

Step 1 : Remove the cotton from the box. Find the beginning and place the cotton next to / in front of you.

Step 2: Make a starting loop by passing the cotton thread through the opening from below – photo 1,2 and 3. Do this 5 more times so that you have a row of 6 loops – photo 4.

Check the bottom of this pattern for an indication of the number of loops and rows per size and material. In this pattern, we assume a 30/65 cm pouf made with Big Cotton.

Step 3: Now pull your cotton thread from the bottom through the side of the first loop of the row as well as through the loop you just made – photo 5. This will create a circle with a loop on it – photo 6 and 7.

Step 4 : Pull a loop through all the sides of the round. At the end, you will have a round with 6 raised loops – photo 8.

Step 5 : Pull a loop through each thread next to the previous 6 loops – photo 8. At the end you will have a round with 12 loops – photo 9. It’s not a nice or neat round, you don’t have to worry about that yet. This is the bottom of your pouf.

Step 6 : Pull a loop through each of the 12 loops. Do this one more time, so in total you go around 2 times.

Tip 1 : Put a piece of thread in/around the first of your 12 loops, so you know when you are round.

Tip 2 : Turn your work over after 3 rounds, so you can work with the bulge that is about to form.

Tip 3 : How to attach your yarn to a new ball
This is how to attach the thread of a new ball: From both ends, fold the cotton back a bit and cut 5 cm from the white stuffing. Fold the cotton over to the inside. Tuck (fiddle 😊) one end into the other, and attach with small stitches all around – photos 19, 20 and 21.

Step 7 : Pull up a loop between each of the 12 loops – photo 10. You now have a total of 24 loops-photo 11.

Step 8 : Pull a loop through all 24 loops. Do this 12 more times, so in total you will go around 13 times.

Step 9 : On the inside of your pouf, attach the starting thread somewhere, with needle and thread. It doesn’t matter where, as long as it doesn’t stick out on the outside – photo 12. Put the inner pouf in.

Step 10 : Join the 24 loops back together to form 12 loops. You do this by taking 2 loops together and pulling the thread through them – photos 13 and 14.

Step 11 : Pull a small loop through each of your 12 loops. Don’t make these last loops too big, as it won’t look as pretty for the top of your pouf. Cut your thread widely. Pull the thread from the left or right through all 12 loops and pull well – photo 15. You will now see a star shape and your pouf is closed – photos 16, 17 and 18.

Step 12 : Take the end of the loop, fold the cotton outward and cut a piece of the inner filling – like photo 19. Now fold the cotton a bit inward, so you don’t see a frayed edge anymore. Lay the end flat where you want to sew it on, somewhere under another loop. Take a needle and thread and sew the cotton in this way.

Step 4 : Pull a loop through all the sides of the round. At the end you will have a round with 5 raised loops – photo 7.

Step 5 : Pull a loop through each thread next to the previous 5 loops – photo 7. At the end you will have a round with 10 loops – photo 8. It’s not a nice or neat round, you don’t have to worry about that yet.

Step 6: Pull a loop through each of the 10 loops. Do this 3 more times.

Tip 2: How to attach the thread of a new ball
From both ends, fold the cotton back a bit and cut 5 cm from the white stuffing. Fold the cotton over to the inside. Tuck (fiddle 😊) one end into the other, and attach with small stitches all around – photos 16, 17 and 18

Step 7 : Pass a loop through each gap between the 10 loops – photo 9. At the end you will have 20 loops – photo 10.

For a different size, you can add extra rounds at this step – see tips at the bottom of this pattern.

Step 8: Make the first loop of a new round. Make sure your thread is on the inside of your basket.

Pass your hand sideways through the loop you just made and the loop next to it, and pull the cotton through here from the left – photo 11. Don’t make the sideways loops too tight, otherwise the edge will curl inwards. You have now made 1 lying loop from 2 standing loops. Repeat until the end of the round.

 Step 9 : When you have 1 loop left, cut the cotton wide and pull the end of the cotton through the last loop so there is no loose loop – photo 12. Now pull the end through a loop on the other side of the round so the edge is closed.

Stap 10: Take the end of the loop, fold the cotton outward and cut a piece of the inner batting – photo 13. Now fold the cotton a bit inward so you don’t see a frayed edge anymore – photo 14. Lay the end flat where you want to sew it on, somewhere on the back or inside. Take a needle and thread and sew the cotton in place like this – photo 15. Do the same with the beginning at the bottom of your basket.

Step 7 : On the inside of your pillow, attach the beginning thread somewhere, with needle and thread – photo 9. It doesn’t matter where, as long as it doesn’t stick out on the outside.

Step 8: Place an inner pillow on the ‘bottom’ of your pillow – photo 10.

 Stap 9 : Pull a small loop through each of your 12 loops. Don’t make these last loops too big, as it won’t look as pretty for the top of your pillow. Cut your thread generously. Pull the thread from the left or right through all 12 loops and pull well – photo 11. You will now see a star shape and your pillow is closed – photos 12 and 13.

Stap 10: Taking the end of the loop, fold the cotton outward and cut a piece of the inner batting – like photo 14. Now fold the cotton a bit inward, so you don’t see a frayed edge anymore. Lay the end flat where you want to sew it on, somewhere under another loop. Take a needle and thread and sew the cotton in this way.

Step 1 : Remove the cotton from the box. Find the beginning and place the cotton next to / in front of you.

Step 2 : Make a starting loop by passing the cotton thread through the opening from below – photos 1,2 and 3. Do this 5 more times so that you have a row of 7 loops – photo 4. Do not make the loops too tight, otherwise the bottom of the pillow will be narrower than the top.

Look at the bottom of this pattern for an indication of the number of loops and rows per size and material. In this pattern, we are going to assume a 40×40 cm pillow made with Big Cotton.

Step 3: Now pull your cotton thread from the bottom through the side of the second loop of the row – picture 4. You have now made a new loop, standing upright. Repeat 5 more times so that you see 7 loops – photo 5. Row 1 is finished.

Step 4: Pass a new loop through all 7 loops – photo 6. Repeat 14 times, making a total of 16 times going back and forth – photo 7.

Make sure your cotton is in the direction you’re going. So at the end of the row, lay your thread to the left or to the right. Pass the cotton through each loop so you’re making another loop. This is how you go back and forth. You don’t have to turn your work, it just stays flat on the table in front of you.

Step 5: Fold your piece in half so that the bottom and top are together – photos 8 and 9.

Tip 1: The lenght of your remaining thread
The remaining length of your cotton thread should now be about 6x the width of your pillow. If it is longer, you can cut it off to make it easier to work on the next steps. If it is shorter, you will need to tack on a piece of cotton thread (see tip 2) or pull out your last made row.

Tip 2: How to attach your yarn to a new ball
This is how you attach the thread of a new ball: From both ends, fold the cotton back a bit and cut off 5 cm of the white stuffing. Fold the cotton over to the inside. Tuck (fidget 😊) one end into the other, and secure together with small stitches all around – photos 17, 18 and 19.

Step 6 : Now thread your cotton thread from top to bottom through the loops – photos 9 and 10. First through a loop at the top of the piece, then through the loop at the bottom of the piece. By doing this, you are sewing the two sides together – picture 11.

Step 7: Now that the bottom is closed, continue sewing on the sides in the same way – photos 11 and 12.

Step 8 : When the first side is closed, pull your cotton thread on the inside of the patch from one side to the other. Tuck your inner pillow into your knit, and thread the other side closed as well.

Step 9 : Take the end of the loop, fold the cotton outward and cut a piece of the inner stuffing – photo 13. Now fold the cotton a bit inward so you don’t see a frayed edge anymore – photo 14. Lay the end flat where you want to sew it on, somewhere under another loop. Take a needle and thread and sew the cotton in place like this – photo 15.

Look at the bottom of this pattern for the number of loops and balls per size. Don’t make the loops too tight, or the bottom of your plaid will be narrower than the top.

Step 3 : Place the row right in front of you. Now pull your cotton thread from the bottom through the side of the second loop of the row – picture 4. You have now made a new loop, standing upright. Continue like this until you reach the end of your row – photo 5. Row 1 is finished.

Step 4 : Keep going back and forth, making the number of rows that fit your size – picture 6. Continue until you are almost out of material. The number of balls that fit the size you want to make can be found at the bottom of this pattern.

Tip 1: How to place your throw when you are working on it.  Make sure your cotton is in the direction you are going. So at the end of the row, lay your thread to the left or to the right. Pass the cotton through each loop so you’re making another loop. This is how you go back and forth. You don’t have to turn your work, it just stays flat on the table in front of you.

Tip 2: How to attach your yarn to a new ball This is how you attach the thread of a new ball: From both ends, fold the cotton back a bit and cut off 5 cm of the white stuffing. When you have 1 loop left, cut the cotton wide and pull the end of the cotton through the last loop, so that there is no loose loop left. Turn your work over, and tuck the end away at the back between another loop.

Lay the end flat where you want to sew it on, somewhere on the back. Take a needle and thread and sew both the beginning and the end of the cotton in this way – photo 12.
